BSG is designed for a wide range of learners — from absolute beginners who are curious about Indian wisdom, to students taking their first course in Yoga or Vedanta, to researchers and scholars seeking access to primary sources. Whether you are from India or anywhere else in the world, whether you are 18 or 80, BSG has something meaningful to offer you.

No. BSG is an independent platform. We are not affiliated with any religious organisation, political body, or spiritual movement. We work with scholars, teachers, and institutions from across the spectrum of India's knowledge traditions — presenting their work with scholarly objectivity and without ideological bias. Our commitment is to the knowledge itself, not to any particular sectarian interpretation of it.

The primary content languages on BSG are Sanskrit (original texts), Hindi (translations), and English (translations and commentary). We are actively working to expand into Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, and Gujarati. Our platform interface is currently in English and Hindi.

The BSG library currently holds over 1,200 curated primary texts. These span 18 major categories of Indian knowledge — from the four Vedas and 108 Upanishads to the classical Yoga Sutras, Arthashastra, Natya Shastra, and regional philosophical texts. We add new texts on a rolling basis, with full editorial review before publication.

Every text on BSG is selected and reviewed by our editorial board — a panel of verified scholars from institutions including IIT Madras, BHU Varanasi, the Ramakrishna Mission Institute, and traditional gurukul lineages. No text is published without expert review. We cross-reference multiple editions and translations to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Both. We prioritise primary sources — the original texts in Sanskrit — and present these alongside authoritative translations and scholarly commentary. Where we include interpretive content, it is clearly labelled as such and attributed to the scholar or tradition from which it comes. We never present interpretation as primary text.

No prior knowledge is required. BSG is designed to be accessible from the very beginning — we have introductory reading lists, overview articles, and beginner-level content for every major tradition. Our learning paths are designed to take you from zero to deep understanding at your own pace. If you are a more advanced learner, our primary-source texts and scholarly commentary will meet you where you are.

We recommend starting with our "Introduction to Indian Philosophy" reading path — a curated sequence that introduces the major schools of thought in a logical, accessible order. Alternatively, the Bhagavad Gita (with our annotated translation) is an excellent gateway — it addresses universal questions in profound and approachable language. We are exploring partnerships with recognised academic institutions to offer certificates for structured courses upon completion. We expect to announce these in 2025. Our primary focus remains on the quality of learning, not on certification — though we understand that formal recognition matters for many learners and will do our best to provide meaningful pathways.

Yes. BSG is free for everyone. Published courses, knowledge resources, events, and community features do not require a subscription, membership payment, or registration fee. Create an account when a feature needs sign-in, then begin learning immediately.

No. Every published course and event follows the same free-access policy. Optional donations support the mission but never unlock or gate content.

The BSG community is moderated according to guidelines derived from the Yamas and Niyamas — the classical ethical framework of Yoga — specifically Ahimsa (non-violence in speech), Satya (truthfulness), and Brahmacharya (restraint and focus). All discussions must be respectful, substantive, and purposeful. Our moderation team reviews flagged content within 24 hours. Repeat violations result in account suspension.
